Established 2012

Not just
another gym

ENERGY Fitness was founded in 2012. Today we run four gyms in Vestfold and Stord, with our own equipment supplier and a stated aim of building gyms people actually want to be in.

What we care about

A supplier few others use

We source our equipment from Panatta Sport and Hoist Fitness, both of them recognised for making some of the best equipment on the market.

High-end gyms

ENERGY has its own interior architect who designs the gyms, with a focus on design and functionality.

Expertise

The founders train actively themselves, and have 30 years of experience in strength training.

How it
all began

ENERGY Fitness was started by Bjørn-Vidar Johansson in 2012, when he took over a gym just outside Tønsberg. It did far better than anyone expected, and much of that came down to a unique range of equipment and a genuine interest in strength training.

Starting a chain of gyms was not the plan. Not back then, at least. Good results raised the ambitions, and ENERGY now has four gyms with more in the pipeline.

The people behind it

Two founders with different backgrounds, both still involved in running the business day to day.

Bjørn-Vidar Johansson, founder and managing director of ENERGY Fitness

Bjørn-Vidar Johansson

Founder and managing director

Trained as an IT engineer, and alongside work and family he has had a great passion for training. He is responsible for the overall day to day running and for automating systems, puts the equipment line-up together and assesses new kit. As managing director he is also responsible for finances, strategy and the further development of the ENERGY concept.

Rune Lyngby, co-founder and head of design at ENERGY Fitness

Rune Lyngby

Co-founder and head of design

Trained as an interior architect in Denmark, with broad expertise across a long list of design programmes. Rune has worked for Kiwi, Telenor and Norsk Tipping among others, where he designed the terminal Rikstoto still uses. He shapes and designs the ENERGY Fitness gyms, and takes an active part in both the day to day running and the further development of the concept.

Ambitions

The road ahead

This is how ENERGY itself describes its plans going forward.

Focus on quality

The equipment is supplied mainly by Panatta Sport in Italy and Hoist Fitness in the United States, both recognised for innovative design and for delivering some of the best equipment on the market today.

Focus on sustainability

We think green in everything we do, from energy efficient premises to reusing equipment. The aim is to combine a healthy lifestyle with a minimal environmental footprint.

Franchise concept

With experience since 2012, the founders of ENERGY Fitness want to help new fitness enthusiasts make the dream of running their own gym real. The gym in Stord already runs as a franchise, and the concept is being developed further for more locations. About franchise

Three gym concepts

ENERGY runs three concepts, as described for landlords: an express gym of up to 800 m² for self-directed training, a full-scale gym of up to about 1,350 m² with room for group classes, and training as a service for hotels and office buildings. Requirements for the premises

Further growth

ENERGY will be moving into more towns and villages over the coming years. In every location, ENERGY aims to be the most attractive training option in the area.
